Please STOP doing this (your brain is begging you)
Do you have a strong "Inner Critic"?
Are you always judging, critiquing, or analyzing your every word, move, or food choice?
If so, you are NOT alone. Constant self-judgment, even under the guise of "healthy self-improvement" is a protective mechanism that many of us (especially women!) have picked up over the years.
We learned we need to be "perfect" in order to be lovable, and now our inner perfectionist is LITERALLY driving us crazy. Or at least keeping us stuck in "fight, flight, or freeze" a.k.a. stress hormone overdrive!
But, we deserve better. We deserve to enjoy our bodies and our lives.
So, I'm sharing the emotional health process I teach my clients. This helps you break free of toxic self-talk so you can live happier and calmer.... and to ditch some of your stress-induced digestive and hormonal symptoms in the process! Triple-score!
We can be as light and loving (and fun! see photo below) with ourselves as we would be with our best friends. Here's how to start...
Toxic self-talk evokes an emotional response which triggers a biochemical reaction in your body. Stress hormones are released - and your anxiety spikes, and all of your symptoms get worse! So what do we do to turn it around?
The starting point is to FIND that negative thought - and neutralize it.
An example of negative thought that to many women carry is the thought, “I hate my body “.
Have you ever thought this? How does that thought FEEL when you think it? TERRIBLE, right? Well, your stress hormones agree and they skyrocket.
While it would be great to shift that toxic thought to the super-positive thought "I LOVE my body", that's too big leap and does not feel believable.
So instead, let's try on a neutral version. A new thought: “I have a woman’s body”...
That thought is true, believable and NEUTRAL. Now, really sit with that thought. How does it FEEL in your body? Can you sense the neutral and accepting feelings that statement produces?
Do you feel more relaxed? If so YES! You are now on a better path: mentally, emotionally, hormonally, and biochemically.
Now, repeat this process using your own negative thoughts: neutralizing them, sitting with it, feeling it ~ and see where it takes you!
